WHAT GOOD LEADERSHIP
LOOKS LIKE: 10+ ESSENTIAL
TRAITS THAT MATTER MORE
THAN EVER
BY: ROBERT L. YOUNG, RPLS – TRANS TEXAS SURVEYING & MAPPING
When we talk about leadership vs. management, the image is clear:
Leadership is about instilling an inspiring vision
Management is about instilling good operational processes
The sweet spot? Getting important things done
But none of it works without honesty. Integrity must be the foundation, or everything else will
collapse under pressure.
Integrity Isn’t Optional
Delegation
It’s the bedrock of trust. A leader with
integrity earns respect, builds strong
teams, and makes decisions that stand
up to scrutiny. Organizations that fail to
emphasize integrity often find themselves
in trouble—legally and ethically.
Delegating effectively empowers your
team and frees you to focus on strategy.
It’s not about dumping tasks—it’s about
developing
people,
distributing
responsibility,
and
encouraging
ownership.
If you're making critical decisions and
steering the direction of a company, your
actions must reflect the highest ethical
standards. Even the little things matter:
returning duplicate payments, being
transparent with clients and employees,
and treating every commitment seriously.
Poor delegation leads to burnout and
bottlenecks, while effective delegation
builds capacity and resilience within a
team.
Ask yourself:

Before you delegate:
Ensure the task is clear
Would I hire me?
Confirm that the person is trained and
confident
Do I live by the standards I set for my
team?
Be available to support without
micromanaging
Am I willing to correct mistakes publicly?
