YOUNG SURVEYOR
HELLO,
We are officially wrapping up 2025! I hope
everyone had a fantastic 2025 and if so, I hope
that momentum follows you all into 2026. I
recently had the opportunity to attend the
N.S.P.S. Y.S.N. fall business meeting in
Minneapolis, Minnesota. I had a great time
getting to build a connection with new faces as
well as catch up with others who I had met in
Washinton D.C. I wanted to take this time to talk
about two things before the year winds down:
some things that were discussed in the fall
business meeting, and then I also wanted to
mention some benefits of getting involved in an
organization like T.Y.S.N.
The Fall Business Meeting:
We had a really good turnout this fall, with young
surveyors from all over the country coming
together. One of the biggest discussions we had
in the meeting was the Y.S.N. Mentorship
program and how great of a tool this could be for
our profession going forward. After its first full
year, the program got a ton of positive feedback
from both mentors and mentees. I can personally
see a lot of potential with this program and
because of this, I would like to see more
involvement over here in Texas. I think
mentorship is one of the most important things
we can do for the future of surveying, and the
mentorship program is a tool that we can use to
help with mentorship. This year, the program had
about eighty participants, which is awesome for
its first year. Going forward, I would really like to
see more participation in this program from
surveyors in Texas. Whether you’re looking to
learn or to lead, I really believe both sides will
gain something valuable. I’ll be sharing more
information in the near future about the next
round of the mentorship program. If you have any
questions please do not hesitate to reach out to
me.

THE BENEFITS OF
JOINING T.Y.S.N.:
When I first got involved with T.Y.S.N. back in 2022,
I didn’t really know what to expect. I decided to
volunteer to help organize an event in East Texas,
and honestly, that one step ended up being one of
the best decisions I’ve made so far in my career. To
me personally, the best part about being involved
with T.Y.S.N. is the connections you make along the
way. As we all know, surveying is a very tight-knit
community, but through T.Y.S.N., I’ve met surveyors
from all over the state who I can reach out to for
career advice, and even personal support. It’s been
a huge help for a lot of things like exam prep and
career decisions. Beyond the professional side, it
has been rewarding to be part of something that’s
helping shape the future of our profession.
As we head into 2026, I just want to encourage
anyone who’s been thinking about getting involved
to go for it. You don’t have to do anything big. You
can start small, volunteer at an event, or attend a
meeting. You never know what doors might open or
who you might meet by simply showing up.
Wishing you all a happy holiday season and a great
start to the new year!
