YOUNG SURVEYORS
Greetings!
I have a couple of updates for TYSN. There are a lot of
exciting things happening this quarter, and even more
planned for the next.
First off, on February 19th, the Austin area held a TYSN
event at Bouldin Acres. It was a great turnout—about 30
surveyors came out to connect, swap stories, and enjoy
some amazing food. I had a great time meeting new
faces and getting to know more folks in the profession.
I’d like to give a big shout-out to Cole Streevy and
Wesely Maresh for making the event happen. Those
guys have been a huge help to TYSN, and I can’t thank
them enough for volunteering their time and effort to
put on events like this!
Secondly, on March 26th, the Houston-area TYSN will
hold an event at Kirby Ice House. We’ve hosted events
there in the past and have continually had strong
attendance, great conversations, and an overall fun
atmosphere. If you live in the Houston area and have
been meaning to come to a TYSN event but haven’t yet,
this is a perfect opportunity. Feel free to invite anyone
at your workplace to join as well.
Thirdly, I’m excited to announce that TYSN will be
rolling out events in the DFW area later this year. We’re
aiming for the second or third quarter of 2026. If you’re
in the DFW area, be on the lookout for announcements
and details as plans come together. If you’re interested
in helping us in DFW, please reach out.

Lastly, the NSPS YSN student competition is quickly
approaching. The event will be held in Washington,
D.C., from April 13th through 16th. This event brings
together universities and colleges from across the
country with land surveying programs to compete in a
variety of survey-related challenges. There are two
divisions: schools with associate degree programs and
schools with bachelor’s degree programs. Texas is
usually well represented, and last year the Klein Collins
High School team, which has a fast-track land
surveying program, placed second in the associate
degree category—an outstanding accomplishment. I
look forward to seeing familiar faces at the spring
business meeting and collaborating with other states
on their YSN programs. I will also be reporting on
TYSN’s progress and bringing back helpful information
from YSN while I’m in Washington, D.C.
Overall, there are a lot of great things ahead for TYSN
this year. It’s really exciting to see the growth we’re
making within both YSN and TYSN, and I’m looking
forward to what’s next.
