YOUNG SURVEYORS
Greetings!
2026 is finally here. For many people, these past
weeks have been filled with new resolutions and
goals for what they want their year to look like.
The TYSN leadership team took some time to do
the same for TYSN. We came up with a few key
items that we want to focus on this year as an
organization. I am very excited for TYSN in 2026,
as we have a great leadership team dedicated to
getting TYSN more recognition and fostering
growth for the organization.
The biggest goal that we have for the year is to
ramp up the membership of TYSN. We want to
see more young surveying professionals at TYSN
events, connecting with other surveyors. TYSN
exists to provide a place where young
professionals can build these relationships, grow
their network, and develop professionally. We
will be more vocal about when and where events
are happening around the state. Anyone in the
profession is welcome to attend these events, no
matter what stage they are at in their career.
Professional development will also be a priority
for TYSN this year. We plan to provide a network
that includes study materials for the FS and PS
exams, as well as materials for the Texas State
Specific Exam. In the past, I attended TYSN
events, and one of the most common discussions
at the events I attended was how to go about
preparing for the above-mentioned exams.
Knowing this, the TYSN leadership team is in the
process of putting together study notes on
subjects that will be on these tests, as well as
exam tips and tricks.
In addition, we want to increase awareness of
TYSN within the broader surveying community.
As mentioned briefly before, we want to be more
vocal about when and where events are. This
way, we can ensure that young surveyors know
TYSN exists and understand the benefits of
being involved. A strong, connected network
benefits not only individual members but the
profession as a whole.
As we move forward into 2026, I encourage
everyone to get involved—attend an event,
bring someone from your work, or someone else
you know in the industry. If you are interested in
taking on more of a leadership role in TYSN,
please reach out to me. We have a lot of goals as
an organization, and because of this, I am
confident that it will be an impactful year for
TYSN.
